The Hallwood Group is a Dallas, Texas-based multi-generational family office investing its own capital. Its real estate experience includes multifamily garden apartments in Texas and Arkansas, a portfolio of more than 1,200 units built and resold over a decade, and earlier commercial office ownership through Hallwood Realty Partners. The partnership owned six million square feet of office real estate before Hallwood sold it to HRPT Properties Trust for $250 million in 2004. Hallwood describes its core equity investment size as $10 million to $25 million and says it will participate in co-investments. The firm invests its own capital in line with family strategic objectives, with investment strategies free from outside investor constraints. Its earlier history includes control positions in several U.S. real-estate investment trusts, including First Pennsylvania Mortgage Trust, UMET Trust, and Institutional Investors Trust. For sponsors, Hallwood brings family-office capital, direct apartment ownership experience, and a history of restructuring real estate investment trusts.
